He is mentioned in the bible as being Jacob's twin brother. Jacob is loved by god and the bible shows on many occasions that the two brothers were exact opposites (the black/white and good/evil theme has been present since the first few episodes of Lost). The theme of twins is also present in the book "Bad Twin" by the fictional Gary Troup who was one of the first 815 survivors to die on the island. - I'm sure that the Hydrogen Bomb explosion changed the time-line. We won't know how until next season. -if Juliette died then so did Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Miles and Hurley. Yes they did die, but since their death changed the timeline then that means that flight 815 might not crash and so they won't ever be in the past again...so they won't die in the explosion...the explosion will never happen...or something like that. - I think that Esau and the black smoke monster are the same entity. For some reason he can only take the form of dead people (like The First Evil in Buffy the vampire slayer) and he has been appearing to people on the island to manipulate them in doing his will (like when dead-Alex told Ben to do what Locke told him to). I also think that Jacob is able to take the form of dead people. If you look at last episode s05e16e17 th Bernard’s cabin is near a tree identical to the jacob’s cabin (both cabins appear in the same episode).

Maybe *they* moved the island and every subsequent group od unsuspecting travelers that are lured there end up moving the island... I do have one question, what did Richard say when he gave access to Ben and Locke at the foot of the statue? Why did he not enter with them when they were to see Jacob? The final battle will be vindication for all of the lost souls and the fulfillment of the quote that Jacob said at the beginning of the episode to the mysterious man in black when they were staring out at the boat. Which leaves me to believe, they aren't going to be travelling in time again (atleast Bernard and Rose - since they will die, due to age, 20ish years from now, decade and become skeletons to be found, when the plane crashes 30 years from now.)
