{"id":1050,"date":"2008-06-23T21:07:20","date_gmt":"2008-06-24T02:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.magiclamp.org\/?p=1050"},"modified":"2008-06-23T21:07:20","modified_gmt":"2008-06-24T02:07:20","slug":"many-people-upset-by-the-netflix-policy-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.magiclamp.org\/index.php\/2008\/06\/23\/many-people-upset-by-the-netflix-policy-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Many People Upset By The Netflix Policy Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;ve mentioned before, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magiclamp.org\/index.php\/2008\/06\/18\/netflix-policy-change\/\">they&#8217;re changing the multi-queue policy at Netflix<\/a> in September, and a lot of people are upset about it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pogue.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/06\/23\/monday-2\/\">David Pogue as a posting about i<\/a>t, and he hasn&#8217;t gotten a reasonable answer about why the change is happening either.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of reasons I can think of that they might be doing this.  One is to cut costs.  I find this a bit hard to swallow, unless they really have a screwy system (which I doubt).   <\/p>\n<p>The other is that they might be making a big push to go from DVDs to more Internet based downloads.   They did recently release <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/gadgets\/2008\/05\/review-roku-net.html\">a device to make watching Netflix movies easier<\/a>.   I could only see them making this change if they made a very big push to make their products download only.<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t seem to be the reason they would just kill off the secondary queues though.   If they were going to a purely download based service, there wouldn&#8217;t be a need for the other queues, but there also wouldn&#8217;t be a need to tell us they&#8217;re killing them either.<\/p>\n<p>I guess we&#8217;ll wait to see what happens.
