Did We Witness ‘The Incident’ in Man Behind The Curtain?

SPOILERS AHEAD – Don’t read if you haven’t seen “Man Behind the Curtain”

What we saw happen in Ben’s flash back must have been “The Incident” that was spoken about in the “Orientation” tape.

The only explanations that I can come up with about the continued food drops marked “The Dharma Initiative” is that there’s someone out there that either doesn’t care what happened to the original team (which I doubt), or the more likely explanation that someone convinced whoever was in charge that “The Hostiles” got in, killed everyone, and he was the sole survivor.

If one of the people in the Dharma Inititive on the outside was the person that initiated the killing of the original Dharma group, they would be in a good position to convince others on the outside to continue funding. Why would they do that? Because they saw something about the island that they thought they could use for their own purposes, probably something radically different than what the original Dharma was trying to do.

  1. Y’know, thinking back to when Desmond was in the hatch…this may explain why the blast doors exist, and why they believed they had to wear the protective gear before venturing outside. Just a thought…

  2. I’m wondering if the “hostiles” were descendants (or, given the odd properties on the island, the actual people) of the survivors of the Black Rock.

My memory is going, but wasn’t Richard the guy who recruited Juliette? So he’s been off-island in the last three years.

  3. Diane, I think that’s a great point. It would probably go without saying that, being a slave ship, there may have been a higher tendency to rise up against their oppressors…I think you hit the nail on the head with that one!

  4. I think the food drops continued because the outside world (Hanso, Dharma, whomeever) wasn’t aware of what happened to the Dharma workers on the island. I think the whole point of “Enter 77” and the subsequent blowing up of that post (by Locke) finally alerted outsiders that Dharma was overtaken by hostiles.
