With over 12 million viewers, LOST got a 4.9 rating/13 share of adults for the two-hour season finale last week.

This is actually good, but the truth is that Nielsen Ratings are irrelevant and have been for years. They ignore other variables, such as TiVo, DVR… So that actual numbers are severely skewed. Also, most households (especially those with children) tend to have mutiple televisions and I am not convinced that their formulas can predict actual numbers with any accuracy.
