  1. Jae, the man who was with Sun in the hotel room, recognized Sun’s father. You have wonder why he would know her father.

He’s apparently very big in Korea (he is a car manufacturer, is he not?), and he knew the guy’s father…so it’s not terribly surprising to me that they knew one another.

I think the bigger question is why Sun’s father was looking for him at the beginning of the episode, when he stumbled upon him and Sun…

  2. I can’t remember what her father does; I’ll have to look.

When I saw him walk in, I thought he had her followed and went in to confront her about what was going on.

I think that’s pretty much the same thing he did with Jin later too; had him followed, and when Jin didn’t go through with the shooting, some of the father’s thugs threw him out the window.

  3. Maybe Sun’s father’s men threw Jae from his balcony, but I gotta assume it was suicide. After all, he was clutching Sun’s would-be pearl necklace.

  4. More on Sun’s father, Mr. Paik, can be found here.

I think Jae committed suicide m’self. That’s consistent with what was happening at the time. Also, I don’t think that Jin left any doubt that he would carry out Mr. Paik’s orders; i.e. I don’t think he was followed.

  5. Of course Sun’s Father knows Jae because He and Sun met and courted briefly before she met Jin. Remember the scene with Sun and Jae and thier mothers drinking tea. I don’t think it was suicide though.

  6. Only the mothers met that episode, and I didn’t remember seeing Mr. Paik and Jae together before that. (Obviously doesn’t mean they didn’t see each other, it’s just that we didn’t see it).

It’d be kinda creepy if Sun or Jin see him on the island.

I still don’t think it was suicide either… Just getting beaten up like that wouldn’t make him jump, and Mr. Paik’s explanation of him doing it because he “felt shame” didn’t quite cut it with me. I mean, if he did feel shame, and that was the reason, why didn’t he jump before then?

  7. Why didn’t he do it then? Because you don’t know how Mr. Paik is going to react. His daughter could go “Daddy, but, I LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVEEEEEE HIIIMMMM! NOOOOOOOO!” and Mr. Paik goes soft (as he apparently does when Sun is lying to him…he lets her get away with it).

I’m not closed minded on it NOT being suicide…but I’ve been left to believe, based on the evidence provided, and Jae being, well…soft…that it was suicide.

  8. I’m pretty sure he jumped because he was in love with Sun, and knew that there was no way he could be with her again, since her Dad found out about them. Also, he didn’t know that Jin was unaware of the affair, and probably thought Jin knew, too. My understanding is that didn’t know about the affair when he was beating up Jae. But when he later tells Sun in that episode “I know you betrayed me,” I was confused because how did he find out? Or was he even talking about the affair?

  9. I think he said “I know you betrayed me” because Sun lied to him about what they were doing on the beach.

  10. The girl that talked to Kate from the bushes is named Alexandra; she’s Danielle’s (The French Woman’s) daughter. Alexandra cryptically mentioned to Kate that “You not even supposed to be in that cage

  11. I just rechecked this. Here’s what they said:

    —-
Alex: “Are they keeping you in the cages?”

    Kate nods.

Alex: “You seen another guy in there with you? About my age, named Karl?

Kate: “No; It’s just Sawyer and me”

Alex: “You’re not even supposed to be in that cage.”

Kate: “What are you talking about? Who are you?”

Alex: “Where’d you get that dress?”

Kate: “They gave it to me”

Alex: “It’s mine. You keep it. It looks better on you anyway.”

    —-
I checked that line specifically on closed-captioning, and it did say “You’re not even supposed to be in that cage.”

I imagine that Alex was surprised that Karl wasn’t there, since he was supposed to be in there. My guess is that Alex did something that made it possible to Karl to try to escape, but doesn’t know what happened to him.

As for the Mr. Paik, he told Sun at the end he was a business associate for Jae’s father. Jin did work for Jae’s father, and Jae even took a flower Jin’s lapel when he was a doorman. It may be that Paik and Jae’s father know each other, but in what capacity it’s still not clear.

  12. How could sun kill her secret lover seriously she had left the building after the father came in USE YOUR BRAIN you saw her right before he died. So unless shes a super fast chinese woman then i guess its obvious that she isnt the one that killed him!

Seriously once and a while use your head buddy
