Top Chef – The Final Five

Spoiler ahead

Number one rule of Top Chef: Never EVER use canned ANYTHING in your dish. We’ve seen people sent home for that before, and it happened again tonight. In spite of that, the wrong person went home.

Right now, I think Paul has the best shot of winning it all.

Fringe: The Observer’s Real Name!

Wow! That was completely unexpected.

On tonight’s broadcast of Fringe, the “Making Angels” episode, the very last part of the show had two other Observers talking with one another. I won’t go into what why they were where they were, but I will tell you something… they named the Observer that saved Peter from the lake! His name is September.

Awesome!

Catching Up

Happy New Year!

Haven’t been posting much, but I have been catching up on a couple of TV series that I’ve been meaning too watch. The latest that we’ve caught up on is Breaking Bad.

If you haven’t seen the show, here’s a brief description: A high school teacher named Walter White finds out that he has cancer, and probably a short time to live. After hearing from his DEA agent brother-in-law about the amount of money that people who make and deal in methamphetamine, and going out on a drug bust, he decides to make the drugs himself. He wants to do this so his family will have enough money to live on after he dies. He teams up with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, and they go into “business” together.

For some reason, this show is listed on Netflix as a comedy. Now, I think I have a pretty good sense of humor, and while the show does have some funny moments, I’d be really hard-pressed to call this a straight out comedy. In fact, it’s pretty brutal at times, and it’s not something to watch with young kids (language and adult themes).

It’s an interesting show. It’s amazing to see each characters transformation throughout the series. Pretty crazy, and more than a few things happen that will make your jaw drop. Despite everything these guys do, and what they making, you’re almost compelled to watch to see how (and if) they’ll get out of it.

By far my favorite season is season 4. I’m not going to drop any hints about what happens, but it’s not like anything I’ve seen. I’m usually pretty good at figuring out where plots are headed, but the season went off into directions I never expected.

I recommend watching it. You can see the first three seasons on Netflix (33 episodes) and purchase the fourth season online. Rumor has it there will be a fifth and final season where they promise to wrap things up in a satisfying way. Sure hope that doesn’t mean: 1) It was all a dream, 2) A quick fade to black, or 3) an alternate reality.

Have you been watching Breaking Bad? What do you think of it?

Sorry, No New “IT Crowd” episodes

Sorry to hear this, but the Register is reporting that there will be no new IT Crowd episodes.

A fifth series of the Bafta-winning IT Crowd had been commissioned, but Linehan – who wrote all 24 episodes of the sitcom – has run out of enthusiasm for Roy, Moss and Jen.

He told readers of online forum Reddit that “the chief reason was the fact that I just wasn’t looking forward to it the way I used to.

“I felt that the last series was a nice strong point to go out on, and anything further might just be running on the spot. You don’t do your best work when you’re running on the spot.”

Linehan, who also co-wrote Father Ted, added that it felt “like a natural time to wind things down”.

Netflix NOT splitting off new DVD Division

Looks like Netflix isn’t splitting off their DVD division after all.

I’d bet the damage is done. Lots of people went to Redbox. If they lower their DVD rental price back to close to what it was before they might get people back. For people that rent recent run movies, and were keeping the Netflix DVDs for any length of time (say a week or two), Redbox is a better deal.

Terra Nova – Series Premiere

Spoilers Ahead

Just got done watching Fox’s “Terra Nova”. I like the show, but the dialog was a bit melodramatic at times. I suppose a lot of shows are like that, but I still don’t like it.

First impressions? Why is it that time portals are always round, and have a light coming out of them. The StarGate was round (ok, that stuff looked like water, but it did have light in it. The time portal from the movie “Millennium” was that way too. In fact, the single file line in Terra Nova felt exactly the same as that.

Why… why, why why, do people do insane things in situations where there’s extreme danger? Why in the world would Tasha, who’s been there a while, and has a father in the security squad (1) leave the safety of the compound, and (2) run out of the safety of the freaking vehicle with all those slashers around?

And I know they were advancing the premise of the whole show, but why would Mira’s crew just stop by the waterfall, *in the dark*, just to look over something they could have waited until morning for? Stupid.

I tell ya….that Skye. First, she reminds me of Jan from The Office. Second, I think she’s the one that’s feeding info to the Sixers.

Maddy, the older daughter, has all the marks of a female Wesley Crusher.

Josh looks like he could turn into a sparkly vampire at any moment.

I know, you might think I don’t like the show after saying all that, but I do think it’s worth watching. We’ll see how it goes.
