Before LOST Season 5 Finale – Some Theories


Wow! I can’t believe it’s already the end of season five of LOST. Tonight’s two hour season finale is bound to have a lot of surprises, some overdue answers and a lot of action.

John Locke

First in foremost, as self-assured as he is going into this final show of the season, I think John Locke in for a rude awakening. First, I think we’ll find out that Ben was right: “Dead is Dead” – John’s been dead ever since he came back to the island, in the very same way that Christian is dead, and (most likely) Claire is dead. I think we got a big hint about this when Claire’s house blew up, and she was pulled from underneath the pile of debris that was on top of her. At that point, I think she was dead. Her sudden disappearance, her appearance with Christian in the cabin, and her visit with Aaron at Kate’s house all point to her being dead. If she didn’t realize this herself, why would it be different for John?

Second, I think his plan to kill Jacob is going to turn out to be a bust that won’t end well. He’ll either be stopped when he’s confronted with the fact that he’s dead and he’ll find out that he himself is Jacob already. None of the others (with the possible exception of Richard Alpert) realize this.

I also think Locke is going to have to confront Matthew Abaddon’s request, and it’s not going to be something he likes.

Richard Alpert

How old IS Richard Alpert? He’s either one of the dead people crawling around the island, or he’s a couple of thousand years old. Maybe both.

I think he’s Egyptian, and has been playing dumb this whole time, waiting for exactly the right circumstances to put his real plan into motion, which is to take over the island and use it to his own ends. Jacob might be the only person/thing preventing him from doing this, and Locke might be the person who unwittingly helps him do so.

Yep – Completely out of left field, but hey, it’s a theory.

The Incident


I think it’s pretty clear that “The Incident” has to do with the hydrogen-bomb. If the bomb itself doesn’t go off, it’s at least going to leak some radiation which is why the people in The Hatch were taking medicine. It’s anti-radiation medicine. It also explains the hazmat suits they were wearing.

Question is, what’s going to happen when Jack tries to set off the bomb? We’ve seen in past episodes that if the island (or something on the island) doesn’t want something to happen, it can prevent it. Remember all the people that tried to hurt themselves? They couldn’t do it. I think Jack’s going to run into this exact problem. He won’t be able to set off the bomb, because the island won’t allow it. I do think that someone (or something) else is going to set that off, thus causing The Incident.

In the end, they’ll build The Hatch, and will build the computer that has a console where the numbers have to be pressed every 108 minutes. (Side note: Since it’s the serial number of That Hatch that is typed in each time, do you think it’s possible there are additional stations where people are pressing buttons, using their hatch’s serial number?)

The question then becomes – what happens to the Jack, Kate and the rest of the folks in 1977? I think the island is going to do what it did before on the plane. They’re going to be plucked from this timeline into the past. Probably the very distant past, likely at the time when things were in full swing on the island. Who are they going to meet there? Maybe Locke, maybe different versions of themselves…. I think this is a good possibility because of The Statue we haven’t had a good look at yet.

(Another side note: The Four Toe thing? I think someone’s foot is going to get hurt, they’ll lose a toe – if that happens on the show tonight, or if we see someone with a missing toe, you can bet they’ll be person depicted as the statue).

Loose Ends

There are so many unanswered questions –

What do the numbers mean? (The only thing I can think of is that this is some ancient sequence used in some formula, discovered back when the island was in full swing).

Was Widmore behind Libby giving Desmond the boat, and did he do this just to get rid of Desmond? (Yes on both counts)

Is it going to matter that Penny and Daniel are half brother and sister? (Probably not)

Is the old guy that Jack visited in the old folk’s home… is that really Jack himself? (I think it is).

The Statue? I think it’s Richard Alpert.

Fringe – There’s More Than One of Everything

The Fringe finale sure packed in a lot of stuff last night.

Some thoughts:

The biggest thing is that Peter isn’t from out universe, since the “real” Peter died in 1985. Walter used his scientific abilities and gizmos to cross the boundaries and take the parallel universe Peter to this side.

Why is Bell (loved the bell on his desk, btw) in that universe? Did you notice the newspaper talked about the “new White House”?

I liked the David Robert Jones storyline, and I think we haven’t seen the last of him. It’s likely that he’s in the parallel universe, and is attempted to get to “our” side.

And, while I just said “he’s in the parallel universe”…. I think it’s likely there’s a lot more than just one parallel universe. The reason I say that is that when Olivia was transported to the parallel universe, the flickering between worlds briefly showed she was in a elevator car with a lot of other people. She was alone in our world, alone in Bell’s world… yet, those people had to come from some place. Yet another universe.

Season 7 – 24 – 5 am to 6 am

Previously on “24”, We found out that: Jonas forgot the first rule of witness protection – Never get into a car that’s wired for explosives, probably “accidentally” set there by Olivia; Jibraan gave a speech to a video camera that rivaled Janice’s acting ability; Tony must hate Subway sandwiches, because he wants to blow one up; Chloe discovered the S&H green stamps on the bank deposits looked fake; Jack was given forgiveness, but didn’t want it, so he’s about to trade it in for some revenge instead.

5:00 am – Evil woman is talking on the phone while a guy in an Intel Bunny Suit plays around with the canister. He tests it, even letting the smoke get all over him, and even though Evil woman isn’t wearing a bunny suit and anyone else would be running around screaming like a maniac, she doesn’t look very concerned.

5:02 am – Tony wires up Jibraan with a microphone. Jibraan gets his hopes up that he might be getting punked, but Tony pretty much shoots that down by being extra scary and threatening Jibraan’s brother. Tony tells Jibraan to go down into the subway while he watches from the van.

Meanwhile, Evil Woman is getting ready for a costume party by putting on 1960s hair, which makes her look like that great half of Sonny and Cher… yes, I’m speaking of Sonny Bono. She takes the canister, which probably hasn’t even been washed off, and puts it into a bag.

5:04 am – Jack questions Jibraan’s brother, who hasn’t read far enough into the script to know what’s going on, so that’s a dead end. The guy that got stabbed with the mirror shard still isn’t dead, but he looks like he’d be ready for a bit part in a remake of Dawn of the Dead. He won’t say anything about it, but Jack convinces him by pressing on his neck, which has to be the least violent thing Jack has ever done. The guy with the massive neck wound agrees to call Tony after Jack “convinces” him.

LOST – Follow The Leader


Spoilers ahead

Ha! What a difference a few hours make. In my previous post, I wrote that I thought the bomb was in the shadow of the statue… well, THAT was proven wrong tonight.

I think we’re still pretty much on target for the rest of the theory though… They’re going to detonate the bomb, and that will result in the guys in the hatch taking anti-radiation vaccine, and wearing yellow jumpsuits for a long, long time.

OK, getting back to tonight’s episode:

Richard said he saw all Jin, Kate, Hurley, Jack and Sawyer die… I’m pretty sure that he THINKS he saw them die, probably a result of the H-Bomb blast, but I think it’s a lot more likely they’ll vanish from that part of the timeline, which will only look like they died in the blast. As to where they end up – I think it’s likely they’ll end up in the distant past. I only say that because of the statue. It’s going to be one of the 815ers. Which one, not sure.

I’m going into pure theory here, but I do that a lot, so here goes:

I think Locke is in for a HUGE surprise when he goes to see Jacob. First off, I think Locke is dead – dead as in Christian Shepard dead. He just doesn’t know he’s dead. His misguided mission to go to try and kill Jacob is going to fail because of this.

Furthermore, I think it’s likely that Jacob is being held in a sort of “in between” state – “in between” meaning, not in this time, but not in his own time either. John is probably not going to like when he finally meets Jacob – either he’ll release Jacob, or Jacob will be the one to tell John he’s dead – maybe both.

There’s probably a good reason Jacob is in that state. In fact, it’s possible he’s in a prison of sorts; that white powder around the cabin (remember that from last season?) might be some sort of ward that keeps Jacob locked up. He might be a reluctant advisor to The Others, and once freed… well, that won’t be good for anyone.

Ben mentioned that Richard Alpert has been around a long time. A looooong time. I’ve seen speculation around that Richard Alpert might be who the Egyptians considered to be the god Ra. (Richard Alpert’s initials = R.A… Ra….) I’m not sure THAT’s true, but I do believe he’s Egyptian.

The questions remain… What is the island? What are The Others doing there on the island? Why is Jacob imprisoned? What does John hope to accomplish by killing Jacob?

I think we’ll get some answers next week, along with a good look at that statue, but the rest is going to be left for the final season.

Next week is a TWO HOUR Season Finale…. I’m looking forward to it!

LOST Theories – What Is In The Shadow Of The Statue and The Incident

Spoilers ahead
One of the questions this season has been “What is In the Shadow of The Statue?”. I think it’s pretty clear that the thing they’re talking about is the H-Bomb, Jughead. I also think that’s what caused “The Incident”. That H-Bomb is going to go off.

That would explain two other long standing questions: What’s that medicine that Desmond was taking while he was in the hatch, and why were they wearing those yellow suits? That medicine is to prevent radiation sickness, and the yellow suits are to protect them from radiation fall-out.

Fringe – The Road Not Taken


Great episode tonight!

Harris buys it in a very appropriate way, Nina Sharp appears to have been assassinated, and Walter walks off with The Observer! Crazy!

Anyway, back to the main story for a minute – I think it’s pretty clear that the organization (ZTF or not) that’s doing this has been doing two things: 1) Experimenting on new weapons and 2) Making people into weapons. Sometimes two in one, like in tonight’s episode.

I liked the storyline on pyrokinesis and not being able to control it. Much better than last episode. Those blood and guts things… Gah! I thought it was pretty great that the girl turned the tables on Harris at the end, when it looked like he was going to let her explode.

Never did like that guy.

Another thing I didn’t like was the sound recording from the broken glass… Really?

Now, the question is – Was he the only one in the FBI working for ZTF? I’ve always had questions about Charlie… could he be involved too?

OK, back to the big, big question… Walter seemed to not be incredibly surprised by The Observer’s appearance. We know they’ve met before, and if I recall correctly, The Observer saved Peter from drowning. Could there have been an agreement made back when that happened? Save Peter, and at some later date Walter would have to go and do something with The Observer? Sure sounds like it to me. (Maybe this was all spelled out earlier, but I don’t remember this, so please let me know in the comments section).

New Shows Coming to NBC

NBC is adding four dramas and two comedies to their fall lineup:

“Parenthood”, (yes, the show based on the comedy movie), is going to be redone as a drama.

“Trama”, a medical show.

“Mercy”, another medical show.

“Day One”, a show that follows the aftermath of a global disaster.

“Community”, a comedy starring Chevy Chase, set in small town college.

“100 Questions for Charlotte Payne” – a comedy where the lead character has to answer questions through a dating service.

I don’t know… Remaking a comedy into a drama, two medical shows (as if we need yet more), global disaster don’t sound all that entertaining. Answering questions on a dating service doesn’t sound that interesting either. A small town college comedy has potential, but I’m not holding my breath.

Season 7 – 24 – 4 am to 5 am

Previously on “24”: Tony found a new way to use a shower curtain and he will use it, in case the canister doesn’t work out; Olivia continued to think that just because her mom is President, her opinion actually counts for something; Chloe came back to fix the computers that Janis can’t figure out; Jack yelled at Janis which made millions of people really happy, but from the look on her face, none of what Jack said sank into her thick skull.

4:00 am – At the Pakistani home, Tony and his evil woman have broken in, and finally got their free Internet access. They also uploaded a lot of propaganda to the Jibraan’s computers, trying to make it look like he spends way, way too much time on Facebook, and to make him look like a terrorist.

Tony wants Jibraan to read a statement to a camera, which Jibraan is hesitant to do because it declares that his favorite website is Geocities. He’s pretty upset about it.

4:05 am – At FBI, Chloe tells Jack that they’ve gone through everything on Twitter, and have seen no mention of an attack anywhere in the DC area. Jack wants to expand this to Muslim extremists since Jonas Hodges said he was going to use them as a cover. When Janice objects, Jack asks if she has a better idea. Janice suggests they look at everyone that isn’t an extremist, and then when they have all of them eliminated, look at everyone who’s left over. Jack thinks it would be quicker if they did things his way, and Janice finally agrees.

Jack has a brief memory lapse and walks away. This surprises Chloe, since Jack can recite nearly as many digits of PI as she can. She confronts Janice and Renee, who tell him that Jack got the wrong end of the deadly gas, and Jack exposed himself.

Chloe’s pretty upset, and confronts Jack, telling him that he needs to be at the hospital. Jack says that it would make for a much more boring show if he did that. Chloe makes a very, very sad face. Sadder even than when Edgar died. Jack tells her that they need to find Tony, and she’s the only one that can help him, other than everyone else in the FBI.
