LOST – Jughead – And Theories To Go With It

Spoilers ahead

Another great episode! I’d have to say the biggest surprise was the Locke met Widmore on the island in 1954. Why did Widmore leave? Did he push the “frozen donkey wheel” at some point? Was he kicked off the island?

Very cool that the very person that sent Alpert to see Locke was… Locke!

Good to see Desmond stand up to Widmore, and interesting that Widmore was worried what might happen to Penny. Strange that he asked whether she was sick or not.

You know, at this rate, the 815ers on the island are going to see Danielle pretty soon.

The fact that Desmond’s work was funded by Widmore wasn’t that much of surprise, but seeing that girl in a vegetative state (sure looks like time travel sickness to me!) sure was. Why would Daniel leave her? He wouldn’t… unless he was forced to… by Widmore. Widmore probably threatened to pull the plug on that girl’s treatment if Faraday didn’t go along with what Widmore wanted.

Theories:

I’ll bet “Elle” (the girl with the gun) is really Mrs. Hawking, Faraday’s mother. Why? Accent, height, and age. Plus it would be a nice tie-in for Mrs. Hawking’s interest in the island…. She might want to get back too, just lke Widmore.

Alpert doesn’t age. Some of The Others do (like Widmore, at least). Ben aged too. That might mean there are two classes of Others. Some age, some don’t. Perhaps the ones that do age are recruited onto the island, while the Others that don’t age were always there. At this point, I’m going to have to attribute this “no aging” thing to Alpert being “dead”.

Now, “dead”, I think is a very relative term on this show. Just because someone appears dead, it doesn’t mean you’re not going to see them again. (We saw Ethan last week, and he died several seasons ago). Locke and crew have been flipping back and forth in time, completely out of control. If someone was able to control this, they could appear to live through time without aging. This might be the way Alpert is doing it.

So, what did you think of the episode?

LOST Theories: Rules Don’t Apply To Desmond

Faraday told Desmond that “The Rules Don’t Apply To You”. In his write-up of Because You Left, Jeff Jensen says:

That Desmond had no previous recollection of this really, really weird encounter — and you would think he would — leads me to draw this conclusion: the past CAN be changed, but probably not in anyway that creates catastrophic paradox. Bookmark this debate: Methinks Season 5 is all about this fluidity of time and mutability of history stuff.

I agree with this, at least partially. It’s not so much that anyone can change the past – it’s that only certain people can change the past. That’s what makes them “special”. Up until Desmond’s accident at the hatch, these people were just born that way. I suspect this is the real reason The Others wanted Walt in the first place.

He goes on to say:

Oh, and how much do you wanna bet that Daniel Faraday’s Oxford-hanging mom is that lovely lady from Desmond’s previous time travel jaunt, the one and only Ms. Hawking?

I agree with this completely, and said that in last night’s posting.

LOST Theories: Sun’s Revenge

Spoilers ahead….
Sun has told two people (Widmore and Kate) that she wants to kill Ben.

On the one hand, Jeff Jensen at EW.com guesses that it might be a rouse of some sort. That she’s really working for Ben as a double agent, or possible that Sun is now involved with someone really powerful that wants to kill Ben – The Economist – and she’s protecting her new life?

I’m pretty sure that Jeff was joking about “The Economist”, but I think he’s on to something about protecting her “new life”. It’s not that she wants to protect some new man she’s with… It’s that she wants to protect the new girl she’s with – Her daughter!

After all, if Sun learned that Ben wanted to get them back on the island, that might mean that she would have to go without her daughter. Even with her daughter, I don’t think Sun would be to ready to go back. She’d do anything to protect her, and the best way she can think of is to kill Ben.

LOST – Because You Left – The Lie

Spoilers ahead

Love the “8:15” opening…

Great episodes! I’m glad the show is back.

Here are some thoughts:

First of all, how in the heck is a baby on the island in the first place? Dr. Chang’s baby, I mean. New arrival to the island? (You did catch that it’s Dr. Chang, not Dr. Candle, right? That name was also mentioned in the Comic-Con video).

Is Widmore after the “limitless” energy? Or the time travel? Or both? …Probably both.

“God help us all” – once from Candle, once from Mrs. Hawking.

When exactly did Daniel travel to that cave?

Does anyone believe that Kate wouldn’t be followed by those guys that came to check for Aaron?

Neil Forgurt has impeccable timing.

What makes Desmond “special”? Is it because he went through the massive power surge when the island exploded?

They really shoot that “special” word around a lot… Locke’s “special”. So was Walt. Are they all “special” in the same way? I think they must be. Are “The Others” immune this too? Is that why Alpert seems uneffected by the time shifts?

How does Sun know Ben is off the island, and why does she want to kill him? Does she blame him for Jin’s death?

Just have to love Hurley’s synopsis of the first four seasons too. I was expecting Hurley to knife Ben when they were in the kitchen together. Never expected him to run to the police.

So, Mrs. Hawking reappears! I kinda of expected that, but only because of Daniel saying that Desmond needs to find his mother at Oxford. Yep, it’s my guess that Mrs. Hawking is Desmond’s mother.

Is Locke really dead? Is the secret to get him back to the island, so he can travel back and forth through time?

With all this time shifting…. Is it Jack and Kate who were those skeletons found in the cave in season one? That theory became a lot more plausible with tonight’s episode.

When did Ben come to the realization that they all had to go back to the island? Was it something he always knew? Or did he find out something was going wrong, and consulted with Mrs. Hawking?

So… What did YOU think of the show?

Dharma Initiative Announcement 9

Just got this:

Dear fellow Dharma recruits,

The fifth season premiere is only hours away. Be forewarned, we are hosting the clip show that proceeds it at 8/7 central.

With the show’s imminent launch, it’s been very busy here in the LOST offices. Last week we attended the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour. We did a lot of interviews there, which you’ll probably see this week, and we showed them episode three. (They’d already seen episodes one and two via ABC.)

We are also working on breaking the last five episodes, writing episodes twelve and thirteen, production is shooting eleven, we’re editing seven, eight, nine and ten, and on the post end of things we are finishing the CG work, ADR, sound and mixing on episodes four, five and six.

So this is a round-about way of saying we didn’t have a chance to prepare a video for you this week. We hope you’ll understand. However, we will be back. In fact it’s our hope to fire off to you guys a DSA video update about once a month as the season progresses.

We really appreciate your continued support, and we hope you enjoy the premiere.

With gratitude,

Damon and Carlton
