LOST: D.O.C. theories

SPOILERS AHEAD

Another good episode! It was quite a surprise to see Mikhail show up, especially since we thought he was dead. He was probably on the verge of death after Locke threw him into the sonic fence, because people tend to heal quickly on the island. This could also mean that Ms. Klu is alive as well, and would certainly explain why she didn’t seem very worried when she asked Mikhail to shoot her.

I’ll try and dig up what the helicopter pilot really said when she saw Michael, because I don’t think it was what Mikhail said it was.

Once it was obvious that Mr. Kwon was alive, it didn’t take that much of a leap to realize that Mrs. Kwon was the one that was blackmailing Sun.

Jin and Mr. Kwon falls right in line with the “Father Issues” that everyone else on the island seem to have.

Sun’s in huge trouble right now. The question is, are the other women in trouble too? Why is Ben having Juliette get “samples” from the other women? Forced pregnancies?

The final big “shocker” of the episode, when the helicopter pilot said that Oceanic 815 was found and there were no survivors…. Well, I think that was a big red herring. The people who built all the facilities on the island seem to have a LOT of resources. I think the most likely explanation is that the plane crash site that the “world” found was staged. Now, WHY was it staged… that’s the bigger question. They either did it to prevent people searching near the island, or make people stop searching because they need the Losties (or at least some of them) on the island.

update: Changed “Michael” to “Mikhail”. (Thanks THG) That’s what I get for writing when I’m tired…

Juliette’s Mission and Sun

What’s Juliette’s “mission”? Before The Other took off, Ben told Juliette that he’d see her in a week.

I (and a lot of other people) have been assuming that Juliette is up to something that isn’t very good, because of everything else that’s happened.

I got to thinking about this some more, and realized that while Juliette is probably trying to get to Sun, it might just be to warn her about what might be happening to her. (Women that conceive on the island end up dying).

We know that the father is either Jin or Jae Lee. If it were Jae Lee, chances are the Sun will be OK. Why? Because Claire was pregnant before getting to the island, and she’s OK. If Jae Lee was the father, Sun wouldn’t be in any danger, but Juliette might try and get to her to see what they can find out about her pregnancy.

If the father is Jin, then it’s BIG trouble for Sun, and Juliette could be there to try and talk Sun into getting some therapy or SOMETHING to help her, because she’s going to die otherwise.

Either way, whatever is happening, it doesn’t look good for Sun. She’s either going to have to admit that she’s the mother of Jae Lee’s baby (which has pretty dramatic implications for the Jin/Sun relationship), or she’s going to die unless Juliette helps her.

Either way, I think Juliette is there to help Sun. I think it’s probably that The Others know about Jae Lee, and when Juliette tells Sun she knows about that, it’ll be what convinces Sun that Juliette is actually trying to help.

….Of course, as usual, this is all theory, so we’ll see how it plays out when “D.O.C” (Date of Conception) airs in a couple of days.

LOST: Question about the “good” people

This has been bugging me for a while now.

The Others made a list of all the “good” people, and took the ones they could. We have a pretty clear picture of why most of them were taken.

Why wasn’t Hurley taken? Or Bernard? Or Rose? They all seem pretty “good” to me. Was it just that the others didn’t have an opportunity to grab them, or does “good” really mean, “good candidates”.

As in: Good candidates for experiments?

Any ideas?

LOST commentary: Catch-22

SPOILERS AHEAD

That show started off with a real bang, er… maybe “twang” is a better word, and ended a bit predictably. There wasn’t much of a story advancement, but we did find out some interesting things:

1) It’s been at least one day of the “week” Juliette is spending on the beach. If you recall from last week’s episode, Ben told Juliette he’d see her in a week.

2) Penelope sent that woman out to search for Desmond. Now, how the heck the woman got out of a helicopter (if that’s what it was) without being ripped to pieces, I have no idea. I will say that the scene where it aircraft went down and the parachute opened was REALLY hard to see, even with a picture from a satellite dish. Maybe I need to get HDTV soon.

Anyway, we know that it was Penelope that sent her because she was carrying a copy of the picture that only Desmond and Penelope have. She should have some information about how she found the island. She’s probably Brazilian too, judging by the copy of the book she was carrying.

3) Desmond was engaged before he met Penelope, and he’s been casting around trying to figure out what to do with his life even before meeting her.

4) Charlie is still in deep trouble. I doubt he’ll make it until the end of the season.

5) In that picture on the monk’s desk: I’ve already said that’s the same lady that tried to sell Desmond the ring, only to turn around and refuse, and then told Desmond all about what his fate was going to be on the island.

The monk is in that picture next to her. Is that the monk’s mother? Sister?

6) Helicopters don’t have that great of a range. Where did it come from? A ship waiting out in the water somewhere?

Lost Theories: Sun’s pregnancy

SPOILERS: Don’t read further if you haven’t seen the Lost episode: “One of Us”.

This is a quick one:

I think a lot of people up to this point have assumed that Sun’s pregnancy was due to mysterious island powers that somehow “fixed” Sun and Jin so they could have a baby.

After tonight’s episode, I think it’s entirely possible that whatever experiment Juliette has been doing on other women on the island has been done to Sun.

Lost Theories: Creating Files on Passengers of Flight 815

SPOILERS AHEAD: Don’t read further unless you’ve seen the Lost episode “One of Us”.

Still there? OK. A couple of questions: How did Juliette know about the man Sawyer killed in Australia? How would Mikhail be able to get files on all passengers on flight 815, as Ben requested?

Well, the easy answer to this is that whatever large network The Others have on the mainland was utilized to get the information. That might work for the passengers on the plane, but how in the heck did they get that information about Sawyer?

There are two ways. First, it might be this mysterious “Jacob” they keep referring to. I don’t think that’s it. That’s putting way too much into someone (or something) we haven’t even seen yet.

The second, and much more plausible answer, is The Smoke Monster. It’s already scanned the minds of various people on the island. It might have even scanned most of the people on the island. If The Others are in able to communicate with The Smoke Monster that might just be how they got all the information so fast. Now, I’m using the term “communicate” very loosely here. They might just be able to eavesdrop on it’s abilities, or maybe read it’s “mind”. Mikhail had a lot of equipment in that complex of his. There may be a frequency he could tap into and “see” what The Smoke Monster sees.

Lost Spoilers: One of Us

Don’t read any further unless you’ve seen this week’s Lost episode: “One of Us”.

SPOILERS AHEAD

That was quite an episode. Many questions answered and some new one questions posed (as usual).

The biggest question is what has Juliette been sent to the camp to do? The obvious question is “Get Sun”. Perhaps Claire is of no use to The Others because she was already pregnant before she got onto the island.

The second biggest question to me was: Why the heck is Juliette still playing along with what’s going on? She REALLY wants to leave the island, but that was thwarted by Locke when he blew up the sub. Right before The Others left their housing complex, Ben sat down with Juliette to go over the plan, which she readily went along with. Has she been promised another “You get to leave the island if you do this” promise?

Other questions:

If no one on that island can get cancer (assuming that’s what the tumor was), why did Ben get them? Supposedly this “Jacob” can cure cancer… Why has he let Ben contract it?

Was Claire injection just a placebo, or a continuation of the experiment?

Why was the newspaper dated Sept. 22, when the plane crash occurred on Sept. 24? Is the island really phase-shifted in time, and out of sync with the rest of the world?

More posts later….

LOST: Why the Black Rock and Eko’s Plane are on the Island

From the time we saw the Black Rock, we’ve wondered how in the heck something like that could have gotten into the middle of the island. The same question comes up when you think about Eko’s Plane. How could it have gotten SO off course that that it made it to the South Pacific all the way from Africa?

You know how? I think it’s because the islands are moving around, or they might even be time shifting. In fact, if you go back far enough, the continents did shift around a lot, so the time shifting idea makes even more sense.

That would explain the reason that Ben and The Others say once you leave you won’t be able to get back.

Smoke Monster vs. “The Box”

spoilers ahead

I’d been running under the assumption that The Smoke Monster is something that has been manifesting itself as various people and creatures this whole time, but now I have to wonder.

If Locke’s father really popped out of “The Box” Ben was talking about, did Kate’s horse too? What about Jack’s Dad, when Jack saw him? (I’m not sure I’m ready for Jack’s Dad, the Zombie version).

Or was this all the smoke monster? The episode where Eko died had his brother running around, and shortly afterward he ended up dying because of the smoke monster.

Any thoughts on this? Smoke monster? The Box? Something else?

Who is Ben’s father?

Spoilers aheadif you’re not up-to-date with the shows, don’t read this!

“LOST” has established that just about every one of the characters on the show has “daddy issues”. Locke’s father took a kidney and threw him out of a window, Kate didn’t like her step-father, Jack had problems with his father, Sun and Jin had problems with her father, and Hurley didn’t get along with his father at all well either.

Every one of those fathers was manipulative to some degree, and probably at least one or two of them are involved in Dharma or the Hanso foundation in some way. I’ve long thought that Jack’s father was in on something to do with Dharma. All this talk of fathers, and one thing I’ve never seen mentioned is:

Who in the heck is Ben’s father?

Ben said he was born on the island. He looks like he’s in his late 40s, or early 50s, so he was on the island since the late 50s or early 60s. The DeGroots didn’t start doing their experiments (at least from what we can tell in the tape) until the late 60s. So…. Who was on the island before Ben arrived on the scene, so to speak? Who is Ben’s father?

Any ideas?
